Southern Regional Jazz
For nearly fifty years, the Southern Regional School District, located along the beautiful Jersey Shore, has proudly taught students “America’s Classical Music” — Jazz!

Our comprehensive program includes a Middle School Jazz Ensemble, a High School Jazz Band, and a High School Jazz Ensemble. Students perform jazz repertoire appropriate to their level of musical development while strengthening listening skills within the jazz tradition. Improvisation is a central focus of the curriculum and is taught through class instruction, private lessons, and masterclasses with nationally recognized guest clinicians.

The SRSD Music Department sponsors annual Jazz Festivals and travels throughout New Jersey and PA to perform at state and school-sponsored competitions, festivals, and concerts. These experiences give students meaningful opportunities to grow both musically and professionally.

We are especially proud of our long-standing tradition of bringing distinguished guest artists to work and perform with our students — experiences made possible through the generous support of our outstanding Jazz Band Parent Organization.
Over the years, our students have had the privilege of performing and participating in clinics with renowned artists including Michael Phillip Mossman, Blue Lou Marini, John Tropea, members of The Original Blues Brothers Band, New York Voices, Jim McFalls, Dave Ballou, Earl Phillips, Ron Kerber, Carl Cox, Brian Height, Randy Brecker, Matt Gallagher, Doug Mapp, Dennis DiBlasio, George Rabbai, Jim Ward, Ed Vezinho, Wilbur Whitman, Mark Kraft, Ron Poorman, Jon Shaw, and Nick Lombardelli.

Through performance, mentorship, travel, and strong community support, the Southern Regional Jazz Program continues its legacy of excellence — educating, inspiring, and preparing the next generation of jazz musicians.
